Sister city Walla walla of Washington state of America
On Augast.14 1972 Walla walla tied the cooperation of sister city with
Sasayama. Walla walla is located in an about 298 mile point from Seattle.
It's population is 25,000. Walla walla has both old history and beautiful
agriculture. The town sight of Walla wall-a resembles Sasayama. Wondaful
sasayama street is build in Pioneer park of central part of Walla walla.
We can feel warm heart contact.
The active and mutual exchange plays an important part of the international
goodwill that makes peaceful world and spread the circle of friendship
and comprehension.(these exchange is exchange overseas study,goodwill visit,"Tanba
Sasayama"drum,and such.
Sasayama international goodwill committee was established in 1972 and inaugurated
for the pourpose of the exchange of the culture and education of each foreign
country.
On August of the same year,Sasayama towm carried out sisiters cooperstion
with Walla walla city through "Dekansho tune" of Sasayama folk
song.
For many years,we have deepened this friendship by our exchanges of overseas
study,and the short term goodwill visits by senior high school students
and it continues even today. Also,local performing entertainers of Sasayama
in the summer of 1995 visited Wallawalla and won popurarity.
1997 is the 25th anniversary of the sister city exchange relationship.
Members of the drum group were deeply impressed with the land of America
since and want to send these thoughts again. We'll continue practicing
to keep these impressions.

history"
Sister city cooperation "Walla walla"(Washington state of Amarica)
Motive of coopration Dekansho dance of home town was chosen as a special
appearance for renewing internationa-l goodwill and peace in the special
day of Washington( Washington tied sister state coop-eration with Hyogo
Prefecture.) ,and sister city relations were set in the Osaka World Expo.This
large global exhibition was held on May 7.1970.
400 people participated in the dance with a large enchated audience watching.
By participating in this event,Sasayama town has hoped carring out sister
city exchange with suitable city of Washington state for international
goodwill and study of economic, administration,and culture,and asked cooperation
of prefecture authorities.
On June 23.1972,when Mr.Wen B Gentry (he's subbureau of economic development
of Washington) and Mr.Nakao (he's chief of foriegn affairs sectionof Hyogo
prefecture) accidentaly visited Sasayama, we heard information to recommend
"Wallawalla"resembling Sasayama.
According to the explanation in this time, the outline of Wallawalla is
as follows. The population is 23,619 people (in 1970 sensus). The area
is 3,221.5 square k. The sea level is 284 m . The cultivation area is 329,090
hectare. As education establishm-ent,there is a kindergarten,2 junior highschool,2
senior highschool,3 university in the city. The main industry of Wallawalla
city is agriculture.
On July 18.1972, Sasayama town diet approved the resolution of sister city
cooperation unanimously. The resolution sentense is as follows. Recently,
in the world ,various kinds exchange between the countries is advanced
actively with civilization progressive.And each countries tend to request
peace,mutual prosperity,and coexistence. 1970, the World Expo was held
in Osaka. And on May 7.1970,it's truly fortunate that as the presentative
folk of Hyogo Pref "Dekansho" dance appearance plays a part of
the international goodwill and Sasayama ties steady friendship with Wallawalla
in the ceremony of Washington state. |
